Cialis contains tadalafil, a PDE5 inhibitor used for erectile dysfunction in adult men. Certain daily regimens are also used for symptoms of benign prostate enlargement (BPH). For erectile dysfunction, sexual stimulation is necessary.
It helps preserve the cGMP signal involved in relaxing penile smooth muscle and increasing blood flow. It is not an aphrodisiac or a cure for every cause of erectile dysfunction.

The following is a summary of approved information, not a dose recommendation for you. A clinician selects the regimen according to diagnosis, response, other medicines and kidney or liver function.
EMA information describes 10 mg at least 30 minutes before sexual activity; a doctor may increase it to 20 mg. Maximum frequency is once a day. Continuous daily 10–20 mg use is not recommended.
For ED, EMA describes 5 mg daily, reducible to 2.5 mg for tolerability. For BPH, the described regimen is 5 mg daily. Daily treatment needs periodic reassessment.

Trials have assessed erectile response 24 and 36 hours after dosing. This describes a possible response window with sexual stimulation, not a continuous erection or a guarantee that it works for everyone.

An erection lasting 4 hours or longer, sudden loss of vision or hearing, chest pain, or a severe allergic reaction require urgent assessment. Stop use and seek medical help. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
With chest pain, do not take nitrate medicines yourself. Tell emergency staff when you last took tadalafil.

Alpha-blockers, blood pressure medicines, strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (such as ritonavir or ketoconazole), and heavy alcohol intake may alter safety. Do not combine it with other erectile dysfunction medicines without medical guidance.
Heart disease, recent heart attack or stroke, previous serious eye problems, and kidney or liver disease need a clinician’s review before treatment. If sexual activity is medically inadvisable, Cialis must not be used.
